If the minds of Tesla and the mysticism of Merlin were to be cast into a pony, you’d have Roan!
Roan is a unique world inspired by My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic meets the many action adventures war films as well as gaming classics such as Crimson Skies, Guild Wars, and more.
The world and its history has been developed form the ground up to give players a unique, and colorful setting that allows players to involve themselves in many adventurous campaigns, be it answering the Call of Duty, finding lost artifacts, espionage, and more!
Many artists from all over the world are involved in this project providing various styles of pony characters to expand the Roan vision. Supporting Roan helps support many of these talented people and we certainly appreciate any and all help that you are willing to offer.
Roan utilizes the Ubiquity system (Hollow Earth Expedition), created by Jeff Combos. The main feature of the system is its use of binary dice pool rolls to determine success. Under the default rules, each even number rolled counts as a success, while odd numbers count as nothing. Odd ‘nothings’ do not cancel out even ‘successes’, making dice rolling quick and simple.
It is a very dynamic system that encourages and even rewards role playing, and helps to simplify the dice rolling so it is not overly cluttered by fancy mathematics.
Ubiquity is an enhanced dice pool system that emphasizes storytelling and cinematic action.
Like other dice pool systems, players roll a number of dice to determine the success or failure of a specific action.
Unlike other dice pool systems, which can get bogged down in excessive dice rolling, Ubiquity has several key features that simplify play and encourage players to keep the story moving.
Roll any dice: Ubiquity lets you use the dice you already own.
You can roll any dice as long as they have an equal number of even and odd numbers on them. You can even mix and match polyhedral dice!
Roll less dice: Ubiquity Dice dramatically simplify rolling dice.
Specially designed as an add-on to Ubiquity, they allow you to roll up to one-third less dice and make counting the number of successes a breeze.
Roll less often: Ubiquity does away with needless dice rolls. Taking the Average tells you which actions are too easy to bother rolling for. You never have to slow down the action.
Play with style: Ubiquity rewards players for having a good time. You earn Style Points for role playing your character which may be spent for bonus dice later in the game.
You not only have more fun, but you’re more effective too.
Roan offers additions to the Ubiquity mechanics, these include an open magic system, air combat rules reflecting dog fights of the real world in easy to play terms, and specialized rules for armor, weapons, and combat talents.
What is Roan?
A pony inspired world set in a 1940s style era. Will you defend your country from the Ratvarian Empire, or race to be the first to rediscover lost cities and ancient secrets!
What can you do?
Venture on as a band of intrepid explorers and soldiers, by hoof, by plane, and by airship to discover lost cities, ward away mysterious creatures, or fend off the Ratvarian Anarchists!
Roan focuses on the ponies that reside in its world, and how they’ve grown to handle a world changed by magic and ever changing technology.
We have focused on creating a grand gaming experience for our backers and everyone that participates in the world of Roan. We’ve worked hard and long to give you all a solid package that is designed well, has clear rules, and wonderful artwork!
I am working to partner with DriveThruRPG so that they may handle the projects electronic format, as well as its prints. Backers will be able to point their friends to DriveThruRPG to obtain their own version of Roan, whether in electronic format, or print on demand.
